On Monday, Aug. 21 our region will experience a partial solar eclipse which will peak at 10:17 a.m. Although this is a spectacular event to witness, safety for you and our students is of paramount importance. Looking at the sun for any length of time without protection can result in permanent damage to your eyes. The only safe way to look directly at the sun or partially eclipsed sun is through special-purpose solar filters, such as "eclipse glasses" or handheld solar viewers. Homemade filters or ordinary sunglasses, even very dark ones, are not safe for looking at the sun; they transmit thousands of times too much sunlight.

Please view NASA's flyer regarding the eclipse for more viewing and safety tips.

Students in a classroom in Kenya now have light so they can study in the evenings for their national exams. No one is happier for them or more proud than a group of Foothill High School students who built Solar Suitcase #660 to provide light at Emalindi Primary School in Khwisero District, Kakamega County, an extremely rural area about a 7-mile drive from Nairobi.

Foothill Ranch Middle School Parents:

The Club Live chapter at Foothill Ranch Middle School has launched a campaign to increase Pedestrian and Bicyclist Safety and Helmet Compliance. We need your help as parents to reinforce positive traffic safety attitudes and behaviors with your children.

On 11/30/2016, our students conducted a pre-survey to assess bicycle safety, helmet usage rate and pedestrian safety in school zones. Students observed 300 pedestrians and 12 bicyclists with the following results:  100% of bicyclists observed were not following good safety practices and behaviors around helmet usage in traffic zones around their school.

We are working to change these numbers and create a safer school and community – please click on the link below for more information and to sign the pledge.

Thank you – Foothill Ranch Club Live Students
